General: While the addition of CAPTCHA to fishing has eliminated most of the bots, there are still many bots parading around on the board. This can be seen mostly in Durem, but all lakes, junk and even overall are affected by the bots. But it is definitely a much prettier sight than the past several months with legit fishers visible all over the place.

Both OMG its blah-for-you and xapthan have fallen off the board, a close examination of their lake scores and factoring in the PI they had when they fell of the board places Blah with about a days lead over xapthan. With only two days left in the month Blah would have to stop fishing for xapthan to overtake her. Though if neither of the two manages to make it back on the board by the end of the month, Zanam may find himself with a bright shiny Overall trophy. .

The Fishing God and OMG its blah-for-you are both maintaining their spots here. The lower ranks have heated up over the last week, though. Goldie Locking currently holds 10th here, when bots are excluded. But several fishers below her are very close. It appears that the lower bronze placings will not be known for sure until the very end of the month.

Two days worth of fishing stand between Blah and Eternel Ciel, meaning Ciel will come away this month with her second Golden Tuna. Once again II Lady Lucy II has dropped another spot. It appears Lucy will once again be stuck with just a bronze after having maintained one of the top two spots the rest of the month. Pelus appears to round out the top 10 this time around, with xapthan being just shy of a day away from snagging a bronze here. Overall, it doesn't appear if anything will change at this lake as far as type of trophy. Though a few of the bronze holders may move up or down before the month comes to a close.

Bots still cover the board here. What is visible, though, shows that as long as Phoenix Fenrir keeps fishing, she'll maintain Gold here, with Alchemist about a days worth of fishing behind her. Kamix Kali falls in third, xapthan in fourth and little lizard rounds out the visible fishers in fifth.

Alchemist has taken back first here, though LemonWarlord is just shy of a days worth of junking away from him. If LemonWarlord picks up the pace again, he may just be able to pull back into first. Andromeda Phoenix lays over two days worth of fishing away in third, meaning she's out of the race for one of the top two spots now. Mozztitty appears to have squeezed his way into 10th here, with Baby Calie following mere buckets behind. It looks like the 10th place bronze here will be a fight till the end of the month with both fishers maintaining a steady pace.

Performance Index (PI) Explained

"Over Achiever"
The Performance Index (PI)

It is simply your total unadjusted score per fish caught (including fish and junk at all locations) for the month divided by the baseline of approximately 20 points per fish. (This baseline has been seen to fluctuate day by day)

For example, you only fished once at Gambino catch bucket of only seedkin. That's an unadjusted score of 18x14 = 252 / 18 fish caught = 14 points per fish for the month. That's a PI of ~70%. Your final score is therefore 252 x 70% = 176

Stats >> Score: 176 Performance Index: 70% Fish/Junk: 18/0

Then you fish at Durem and catch the following bucket:
4 Pebbo Feeders, 4 Biters, 4 Boldurs, 3 Tires
That's 7x22 + 4x32 + 4x42 + 3x6 = 468 / 18 fish caught = 26 points per fish for the bucket. If this was the only bucket you caught for the month, you would have a PI of ~130%

However the PI is calculated for the entire month, so after fishing that bucket at Durem, your average points per fish would be 252+468 = 720 / 36 fish caught = 20 points per fish for the month so your PI would be 100% Your adjusted score is therefore 720 x 100% = 720

Stats >> Score: 720 Performance Index: 100% Fish/Junk 36/3

Examples of ~100% PI:
"Bass'ken"
11 Bass, 7 Striper
"Gambino"
10 Seedkin, 5 Trout, 3 Tuna
"Durem"
16 Pebbo Feeders, 1 Can, 1 Tire

Junk

"Over Achiever"
[Junk Score] = [Score]/[P.I.%] - [Fish Score]

[Junk Total] ~ [Junk Score]/4
This is only an approximation of the total junk caught.

Official Bucket Terminology

There's a few types of different fishers out there, each tending to get (or wish for) specific things in their buckets. As there has been some confusion over what a "perfect" or "decent" or "horrible" bucket is, we have taken the information from a former overall winner and expanded the information into 12 main types of buckets that people get or hope to get.

Sushi Platter
- Must contain two of every type of non-rare fish available. (Bonus points for pairing them next to each other. Not real points that count, mind you.)
- Must contain no junk.

Perfect Bucket
- Must contain nine large fish.
- Must contain no trash, no small fish.
- Must contain one of each variety of medium fish and large fish available.

Lucky Bucket
- Must contain one saved rare fish.

Hat Bucket
- Contains nine or more of the same type and color of fish/junk.

Performance Bucket
- Must contain nine large fish.
- Must contain no trash, no small fish.

Sweet Bucket
- Must contain no trash, no small fish.

Traitor Bucket
- Must contain only one small fish or one piece of junk.

Filtered Bucket
- Must contain no trash.

Speed Bucket
- Must be finished within five minutes.

Dredge Bucket
- Must catch everything hooked.

Trash Bucket
- Must contain mostly junk.
- Must contain just enough fish to pay for the cost of the bait.

Junk Magnet
- Must contain six of every type of junk. (Bonus points for lining them all on the same row.)
- Must contain no fish.

Bonus Terminology!

Some fishers have come up with terms of their own to describe special buckets. If you'd like to submit a term, post it here or PM it to Logan, and if we like it, it could appear here!

Checkerboard Bucket
- Must contain two different kinds of fish, which you catch in an alternating patterns. For example, you might try to catchu a green seedkin, then a blue seedkin, then another green seedkin, etc.

Magnet Bucket
- must fill the bucket with only 1 type of fish.

FAQ

Here we will try to answer the most asked questions in the forum. We won't of course have answers to all of the questions, and this will be updated as other questions become more asked than others. A more indepth FAQ is in the works and will be posted eventually.

  • Fishing won't connect to the server! It takes forever!
I know, sucks doesn't it? Just have to keep refreshing and trying and trying until it connects. It can take as long as 10 minutes or more before it connects, just keep trying, and make sure your cache is cleared.

  • Why is it loading Bass'ken all the time?!
There seems to be an error we don't really have a solution for, where no matter what lake you click on, it loads Bass'ken. Possible solutions might be to clear your cache, wait a while, or try using a different browser. If you have an extra computer you can use, try that one as well.

  • Chat died!! Still saving?!! Where are my fish?!
If none of your games are saving, or the saving screen never goes away, or the chat dies and you can't chat anymore while in a fishing room, it means Gaia lost your connection. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do right now to fix this. The admins know there is a problem and they are working on a solution.

  • Why can't I fish? Why can I only fish once a day? Why won't the bar load? Why can't I enter a room?
Fishing has always given some problems, but ever since the new layout a lot of people have trouble getting the game to load at all. The most common solution for this is easy, just clear your cache.

Ok, how do I clear the cache?
If you are using Internet Explorer, go to Tools -> Internet Options. Under the part that says Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files. When the hourglass is gone, click okay, then try reloading fishing... And be prepared to wait a good 5 min for it to load.

If you tried that and it didn't work, try using another browser, like FireFox, it's free, easy to download and install and usually always loads fishing.

  • Where can I see my scores? Where can I see how many fish I have caught, or what my points are?
Fishing Stats -> click there 3nodding

  • How do I fish?
Fishing is easy, once you get the game to load, and you've joined a room or made one, just pick some bait. Once you've picked bait, and a rod, click once anywhere on the water, and you will see the power bar move at the bottom of the fishing screen. Click again on the water to cast, based on how much power you want to use. Wait for the "You Hooked Something! Get Ready" sign, and then just move your mouse so that the bobber stays inside the red lines at all times. Keep doing that until you reel the fish in all the way.

That's pretty much it, you might need to practice keeping the bobber between the red lines a bit before you get the hang of it, but it's really simple once you get it 3nodding You can also use other rods to make fishing easier, based on where you have trouble.

For more information with pictures, please read the How to Fish post in the Fishing Ubersticky. For even MORE information, check out our LINK section for fishing guides and howtos.

  • What is the best rod?
There is no best rod 3nodding all rods are the best, it just depends on what you, as a fisher, find easier, better to use, for you. If you want more information on what each rod looks like, and what they can do, check out Need Help Deciding Which Rod to Get?

  • Why can't I catch anything? Why is all I get guppies and trash?
Probably because you are hooking fish that are too hard for you. Just practice a bit. Also, try using one of the other rods, that will make catching fish other than guppies and trash easier. Try using A or D bait if you are getting tired of the trash and guppies.

Also, there are other lakes, visit them! They are harder than Bass'ken lake, so it's suggested you practice at Bass'ken first.

Don't get frustrated if all you get is guppies and trash, just keep practicing, and soon enough, when you do hook a bass or a striper, you will be able to catch it just as easily as any guppy.

You can even learn to only catch stripers and bass, and even learn to not catch trash at all! Check out our LINKS section for information on Filtering if you're curious about that.

  • What do I do with my fish?
You can keep them, sell them back to Logan in the store, sell them in the marketplace to other users, trade them for gold or other items using the Game Item Exchange Forum or you can exchange them in the Fishing Exchange for items! Read the Fish Exchange Sticky for more information 3nodding it also has picture samples of the fish items you can get.

Poetry Corner

Due to a brief poetic streak in one of the older threads, the Poetry Corner was born. From time to time one of the regulars will get an artistic inspriration(Or maybe just too many fish swimming in their head) and come up with something. That is what you will see here. If you would like to have poetry here please PM it to me.

Lake Themed

Bass'ken

"Over Achiever"

Guppies are red,
The Bass are blue,
Filtering out junk,
Takes forever to do.

whee

"Frustrated"
Red Guppy Red Guppy you move like Bass,

Red Guppy Red Guppy I wish you were dead,
Red Guppy Red Guppy I''ll mount you on a hat and wear you on my head.

Red Guppy Red Guppy you must breed like bunnies,
Cause Bass''ken is so full of you ******** it''s not even funny.

"maharito"
There''s a man of Lake Bass''ken named Floyd.
A simple fishing method he employed.
If the strength of a wiggle was just more than a little,
he''d reel it in, and be overjoyed.

"DJ Trouble"
A Bass'terd Haiku by DJ Trouble

That smelly Bass'terd
I need to feel inside you
Swallow me, Bass'terd

Gambino

"chaos_butterfly"
Seedkin are pink,
frozen rainbow are cool,
version 105 sucks,
and the admins are cruel.

"brezzie"
My pretty little Seedkin
if only you had seen him
He was rainbow''rific
it was just terrific
He loved to swim and play
and then one day
my Seedkin'' ran away.

"maharito"
There''s a man of Gambino named Keith,
who made ''fff fff'' sounds through his teeth.
whenever a fish''s power surpassed the left red tower,
he''d use rhythm to catch the tuna beneath.

"BlackPidgeot"
Ode to Seedkin

Seedkin suck
Their fins I pluck

Green, Blue, and Pink
I''ll toss them down the sink!

They move rather quick
Like fish I''d rather pick

Stupid little fish
For Tuna is what I wish!

"ll Shuyin ll"
ninja Just thought maybe I'd share my best fishy poem yet. xd
chino, chino,
you're faster than a bino,
you're in the depths of gambino,
and you hide from the tino!

Durem

"Heavens Wraith"
pebbos are black
pyrites are gold
fishing is fun
until it gets old >.<

"wagnas"
Bass'ken reeling is slow
Gambino water is deep
But at the ultimate fishing lake
Yes that's Durem, I always fall asleep

"~Magical_Trevor~"
Pebbo fish Pebbo fish,
Brown, White Black.
Pebbo Fish Pebb Fish,
I''m putting You Back.

Pebbo fish pebbo fish,
Brown Black White.
Pebbo Fish Pebbo Fish
You don''t put up a fight.

Pebbo fish Pebbo Fish
Black White Brown.
Pebbo Fish Pebbo Fish,
You weigh my bucket down gonk

"brezzie"
My dear little Pebbo,
I should name you Bebbo
You look like a mouse
you smell like a house
One day you ran away
I wish you could''ve stayed
My Bebbo ran away.

"maharito"
There''s a lad of ole Durem named Paul,
though ''Paulina'' did his drinking buddies call.
When his cursor pulled over the left side of the shoulder
only boldurs and biters didn''t stall!

"nimhdragon"

Rubyback, Rubyback
It's you that I lack.
Unlike the other gembacks
Your not in my sack
My Emeralds are above the coat rack
and the Diamonds are on the back
But Rubyback, Rubyback
Why is it you that I lack?
So colorful and red
I should have you dead
You are the best color
over all the others.

"ODINs choise"

Durem way

Bitter coffe and a pack of cigarettes,
Comp turned on and in Durem again.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa,
damn you boldurs, dont be so lame!!!!

Other

"wagnas"
OA wears socks
but why he wears a BAO, I have no clue
but the Labcoat makes him a man
And that is completely true.

"Teh Squish"
Junk is lame
filtering is fun
But make a Tin Hat
and you''ll have lots of fame

"Over Achiever"
Old cans are shiney,
Old boots are big,
Those big old tires,
Belong on my rig.

"wagnas"
Gaidin wears an OMG
Heaven rates poems
But I think it''s all a plot
That''s why I end this one without rhyhm.

"Teh Squish"
They can be long.
They can be hard
Mine will be bronze
Some will be gold
Trophies are here
Pass me another beer? *shrugs*

"Gaidin"
Silver is good,
But Gold takes the cake,
And Chaos has got one,
From every single lake! whee

"wagnas"
Some fishing trophies are Silver
Others are made of Gold
But for the Shiny Sushi Statuete
That one has to be cold

"Piraten"
Mysterious Fishermen!
Mysterious fishers, we see them each month
Nobody knows''em, but these are the ones
That appears out of nothing, to flash off some skills
Get their hands on the gold
And then disappears
We''ve seen''em before and we''ll see them again
Mysterious fishers be carefull with them!

"Shyla"
Okay, here is my poem. Please keep in mind that I am a terrible poet. sweatdrop

I want them to introduce fishing at the Barton Coast.
I caught a Snarlin Marlin and a Whale, we could surely all boast.
Maybe with friends we could fish from a boat,
Or set sail from a castle that has a murky moat.
Our ship would never ever spring a leak,
As we floated along to find the fish that we seek.

"Teh Squish"
Bass''ken is slow.
I hate this new version
Red guppies are evil
Going for overall really blows.

"brezzie"
One day I caught a guppy
the guppy smelled like bass
a bass that smelled like a**
Then my mother told me,
"he''s just your little homie"
So I took him for a drive
We passed a Bee hive
George Guppie hated bees
I don''t know what he sees
But on that faithfull day
George Guppy passed away.

"brezzie"
Squish is always Squishy
Chaos loves her Gold
I hope all fishers are happy
''Cuz sushi''s really cold.

"Contra Celsius"
As I set, the moon shines bright
Tonight I have a rare in sight
And in my heart there''s just one light
The light I need to get it right
To cast to reel to get that bite
Of the fish that''s worth my life...

"TranquilityStar"
I'm a fishy, yep.
At least I'd like to think so.
Going for a swim.

---

Bathtub touches down.
Pour some bait inside and watch.
Ha ha, stupid fish.

---

Stripervision Up!
Show me the fish within you!
...wait, that's a guppy.

---

Haiku Time! What fun!
Five, then seven, five again.
Sure beats filtering. icon_4laugh.gif

---

I started a new fishing game.
I thought "Hey, today is my day!"
But instead of the lucky,
my buckets were sucky,
and only my tires got saved.

Hall of Fame

Top Fishers has been around since the early months of 2005, and since it's founding, many great fishers have come and gone. Here we etch some of these Fisher's names in history, carried on through the present to the future of Fishing, for all to see.

Ariela Steadfast
Ariela appeared on Gaia in May of 05, showing up in fishing and here in TF in June, when she wowed everyone for the first time. Unexpectedly amidst some very chaotic times in the early parts of the month, she emerged as the Gold Gambino winner. But even though she went on to win a Silver at every lake, and some Bronzes as well, that's not all she's known for. Ariela is most noted for being a "Mother figure" here in TF, always supportive, always nice, always using reason. She's been offering her hand to help out since she arrived, and has since become part of the Staff. We at TF are not only lucky, but honored to have such a woman as a part of our Community.

Gaidin
Should there ever be a title of "Gaia's Fishing Wizard" Gaidin would take that title in a heartbeat. Not only are his fishing skills legendary, but his ability to run numbers for what is possible in a certain amount of time regardless of which fishing area have made him THE person to ask questions of regarding fishing in general, trophy runs and even many basic difficulties new fishers have had. Though he hasn't completed his trophy set as of yet, he's only shy a few and has quite a few multiples under his belt. Gaidin is also a large part of the glue that has held TF together, even buying the guild for the community so we could chatter more with eachother. He's always willing to answer questions should anyone need a little advice, runs a fishing guide in the Fishing forum, and is a caring individual trying to keep the balance between the rules on Gaia and individual relationships. It is rumored if you mention his name, he will appear! Gaidin is well loved and respected by the fishing community, and I can't think of a better compliment to give him. Honored among the community isn't enough said about how people feel about him.

Holy Knight57:
A great fisher and community builder. Holy started his career in May 2005, winning dual bronzes from Durem and Junk. Over the two years he fished, he earned ten trophies, including three golds and a silver. Holy served on the Top Fishers staff from August 2005 to May 2006. He also ran the Unofficial Junk Socreboard for many months, bringing clarity to a scoreboard that was otherwise hidden.

H o l y V a i l
Not necessarily known to many of the newer fishers, Vail is still one many could learn from. Failing his first two attempts at Overall, he came back a third time to finally win, despite being treated in an ill manner by his competition that final time. A quiet, but friendly fellow, Vail was always a model Top Fisher. He offered help, he upheld fishing, and he was a good sport. Unfortunately life keeps him away from us most of the time, but those that do get to see him could do far worse than to follow his example.

tiranaki
tiranaki has pretty much always been around TF, even if she wasn't trying to make big waves. She has made some waves though, winning a Durem gold and being a part of TF Staff for years now. Being the first recorded person to have caught 3 rares, her subsequent research into finding out about rares has led her to to be the host of the Rare Fish Report. The Rare Fish Report is basically a database for rare catchings, and home to information on which Fishers build their theories on how best to approach hunting rares.

Transcendent
Transcendent. Not a name much seen or heard anymore, though many have been touched by him and don't even know it. Not only did Trans secure an Overall on their first try, working out PI factors that were still unsure at the time, but he hosts the most popular fishing contest out there. Previously known as Transcendent's Fishing Contest, he now has a guild for fishers known as United Fishers Organization, or UFO. The same contest is handled through it, and the greatest filterers come from all over Gaia to duke it out. Not only that, but his format set the stage for many other contests over time. Though he's not seen much in fishing anymore, he's still first and foremost a Fisher, and his contributions will always be a part of Fishing itself.

Alfrog
Alfrog may very well be one of the most quiet of TFers ever to grace the boards. One who spoke little, but in a friendly manner when he was around, he made friends quickly in TF. Few will know him for that however, because his main claim to fame is his fishing style. He was another who did things, and did them right. He didn't go and win 5 Golds, but he did get 2, and a couple Silver with some assorted Bronze as well. When he fished, he did pretty much what he aimed, a Fisher who definetly knew how to plan. He's not with us any longer, dissapearing on hiatus last year, and hasn't really returned to TF since, but his memory lives on.

Chaos_Butterfly
Chaos has been around about as long as fishing itself. Winning the Silver Bass the very first month(Before even knowing trophies were handed out), she went on to be the first to ever collect the entire set of fishing trophies by fishing. In fact, to this day, no one has duplicated this feat. Other accomplishments include being the first to break 1,000,000 points in Durem. Her highly strong and intense fishing style will leave her name remembered for fishing generations to come.

Elendilon
In every major hobby, there's always that one person people use as an example of the utmost extremity. That person for Fishing is Elendilon. His insane approach to fishing brought in over 67,000 fish in april 2005, racking up over 1.2 million points in raw total score. While he didn't talk much, he made friends when he did, and showed the world of fishing just how high one could set the bar.

IxianMace:
IxianMace made his fishing debut by winning a Gambino bronze in September 2005, and followed it up with a Durem gold in April 2006. However, his most impressive achievements have nothing to do with trophies: Ixian has distinguished himself with his excellent performances in the user run Can Catchers Anonymous and United Fishers' Organization contests. His open, helpful personality and demonstrably awesome filtering skills mark Ixian a true Fisher.
