![]() Hello Gaians, I was going to say I’m back, but I had such a good time on Gaia last year when we launched The Alchemyst, that I never left, and I’ve popped in and out as regularly as I can to answer the questions that are still posted to the forum. (And to collect my daily bonus, of course!) The response to The Alchemyst was extraordinary. Within minutes of going live, hundreds of questions had been posted to the forum. It quickly grew to thousands of questions. Almost immediately, pages of questions and comments were rolling in much faster than I could imagine. In the days and weeks that followed, Gaians continued to log on and ask questions, far more than I could ever hope to answer. But then an extraordinary thing happened - lots of Gaians came to my rescue! People I had never met took the time and trouble to answer some of the questions on my behalf, directing people back to answers I had given earlier. I know I’ve thanked them on the forum, but I want to thank them again – it was a wonderful example of the Gaia community in action. I read all of pages of questions and comments about the book and when I came to write The Magician, I made sure to answer as many of the queries as possible within the text. Lots of people wanted to know why Nicholas Flamel simply didn’t memorize the recipe for immortality: I made sure to answer that question. Everyone wanted to see more Scathach (she is turning out to be the most popular of all the characters) and I promise you she has a great role in The Magician. Some of the questions I cannot answer at this time however, because that would reveal the ending to the series and give away some of the huge surprises in store. So, if I haven’t answered something, do bear with me. All will be revealed in time. Lots of people wonder if I have the series planned out, and the answer is yes. Because this is such an intricate and complex series, and because it takes place over one month, I had to create very detailed synopses of each book. I’ve also posted answers to the most frequently asked question on my website at www.dillonscott.com The Magician is the second book in The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series. Book one, The Alchemyst, takes place over 2 days and I can reveal (exclusively to Gaia) that book two takes place over another 2 days and begins seconds after book one ends. We learn a lot more in this book about Nicholas and Perenelle and we get to see Sophie use her new powers. Of course, she is in Paris to be trained in a new power – that of fire. As the book opens, Josh’s powers have still not been Awakened and Perenelle remains trapped on Alcatraz, guarded by a sphinx. There is a new villain too: Niccolò Machiavelli, a man described by Flamel as: “The most dangerous immortal in Europe.” All I can say now is that by the end of the book, a lot has changed, and there are some shocking surprises.
