I recently installed the latest amd64 distribution of ubuntu on my laptop alongside vista. I was trying to optimize my hardware, as the 32-bit version of windows it came with only used 3GB of my 4GB of RAM, and Hardly touched the 1GB of VRAM.

I was having trouble getting steam games to run in linux. They would say it loaded, then it would just stop. and I'd get nothing. I got a little tired of troubleshooting so I went back to vista to game a bit.

But now when I start steam and try to connect to my account, it gives me the Blue Screen of Death. It flashes by too fast to read it, and my comp just restarts Please Help!

Tech Specs:
N50V Series ASUS Laptop
Nvidia GeForce 9650 GT (1GB)
CPU: Intel Centrino Duo T5800
RAM: 4GB
OS': Vista Home Premium 32-bit and Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Kuala?) 64-bit (Wine and the 32-bit to 64-bit conversion software was installed on the Ubuntu side)

edit: And recently, Vista did a check of the hd when I walked away and deleted Linux, so When It came to boot Grub was very confused. I had to reinstall linux just to get my laptop to boot. I haven't been back into Linux since that time. Suggestions?

It only used 3 gigs because it takes the 1 gig of vram into account, also a gig of vram most likely isn't being used because most modern games won't use that much regardless of the platform.

Details. Especially on WINE andh ow it'd set up.

Right click "Computer" icon on your desktop and right click the word "computer" , select properties.
Click "Advanced system settings" and UAC will pop up (if it's on), click Continue, then go to "start up and recovery".
Uncheck "Automatically restart" under "system failure".

After that, the next time it goes to crash, it should stop and display the error until you cut it off.
Write down the error message, then tell it to us.
All we need is the error message, filename if there is one, and the number codes, not the text telling you there was an error.

Google for info on restoring the windows bootloader. When you erased linux you erased the partition that had GRUB on it, so if you want to remove linux you need to restore the windows bootloader that was overwritten with the linux one.

I just installed the latest version off of their website. Steam would run exactly as it would on vista. The only problem I encountered was That It would give the normal "preparing to launch ------" screeen, and after that closed, as if the game were about to start, it never did.

I already solved the problem. I'm on my laptop right now on the Vista side. I was just wondering if that had anything to with the BSOD.

I kinda prevented any further progress in that area. I was reading elsewhere about how sometimes the Registry.blob in Steam gets corrupted and I deleted it. Now I can't remember the e-mail I use for steam. Stupid Me. THe error always occurs right after I try to connect my account. So I'm trying to troubleshoot recovery, but progress is slow.

UPDATE: I finally got back access to my steam account. and then it errored again and the error message read: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

I happened just after it said failed to connect to steam. A few second after it tried to connect, it displayed the error. I guess it wasn't the clientregistry.blob file then. Deleted, and steam updated to reintstall it. Anyway. suggestions?

That should explain your error.

... what about the other info from the bluescreen I asked for?
The error codes ARE important, as well as any filenames it may mention.

Oh, and I'd recommend to do this, if you can GET into Vista now.

Right click computer on your desktop , or go through the control panel to your system settings, there's an option to select advanced system settings, and from there, there's an option

http://www.techfuels.com/attachments/windows-vista/12936d1252408594-how-configure-virtual-memory-windows-vista-3.jpg

It looks like this, and you click the settings button under "start up and recovery" and uncheck the option of automatic restart at error.

I'm not in vista atm , my vista laptop's trying to get back to me in the mail, so this may be a tad off, but that's how you make it so if you have a blue screen it'll stay up and not restart.

That was the ONLY error that was listed. It gave No other errors. The rest of the screen was just info about reporting it, or if this is the first time you have seen this, bla bla bla. That was the only error or helpful thing it said.

The error codes and filenames are lower on the screen.

*smack face* xp I feel stupid now. haha. But I looked for a file name, and it doesn't give one. it just gives this

***STOP: 0x00000050 (0xBD4 53001, 0x00000000, 0x824BF6D2, 0x00000000)

same here

There's some results to look through, since it depends on some programs you may have installed.

It seems to be a problem with the display adapter. Which makes sense, since on my linux side, I can't even get Any basic effects to work. It says the drivers don't Exist. Thanks!
