I don't know that much about computers. I'm pretty good, but not great with them. I'm looking for a laptop for myself. Since I'm going to college, and have a college fund.. $$$ doesn't really matter. I just need a good laptop for school (under $1,500), music recording, and programs programs programs
limewire, itunes, movie makers, music recording programs.. etc
plus I want it to be hekka fast
and have alot of memory. I was looking at this laptop

also, most colleges frown upon limewire. here at MTSU, we get kicked off the network and can get a hold placed on registration for using limewire.

Gaia breaks some links, use something like urlcut or tinyurl to post the link. And LAN's right, piracy can get you kicked out. Downloading songs from limewire to avoid paying for them is piracy.

We still strongly discourage the use of Limewire. Even if it's not on campus, there are still very valid concerns.

If you would like to know specifically why, tell us why you need/use it.

You brought it up all on your own. Expecting us to ignore it is asking a lot.

You can be fined up to $150,000 per song if and when you are caught. And people are routinely caught.

Suck it up and buy your music. You can purchase CDs in many places for a fraction of the cost of buying each song individually at 99 cents each. There are no excuses. You already admitted that money doesn't matter.

As for your computer. If you want it, get it. Anything on the market will handle any of the menial tasks you listed.

Looking at the specs....

Would do fairly decently at gaming with that 230M GT, though the processor is seriously underclocked..... (this is of course, if you cared about gaming potential, which you don't seem to).

1.6 GHz Intel Core i7......

Though I suppose it's either s**t for speed or s**t for battery life, pick your poison....

Remember, ghz is not a valid unit of measurement across processor lines.

The 1.6ghz Core i7 scores 3356 on passmark.
The 2.4ghz Core 2 Quad Q6600 scores 2908.

The processor is fine.

I'm aware....

But when you think about the fact that most Core i7s are clocked much higher, I'd say that is one hell of a downclock...

It's not that it's slow, it's that it could be much faster.

The mobile Core i7's are factory downclocked on purpose, they run at 1.6ghz x 4. But if you're doing anything high end, they'll kick up to 2.4Ghz x4 or higher.
And plus its to make it have a longer battery life.
But I'd go with a Core i7 laptop for school, Core i7's are excellent processors.

In that machine, it doesn't need to be.

Remember, lower-clock processors are sometimes ones in a batch that are found to be faulty when run at higher speeds, but perfectly fine when run at a certain speed, which is the speed they're locked to and sold as. This prevents the processor from being a total waste of money, and offers a cheaper alternative for the average user.

@Rydian they are designed to do it for battery life purposes and stuff.
Most Dual Core and Atom processors do it, like on Linux if you have the CPU meter, it'll adust depending on the load you are putting on it.

I know at least some of the desktop models can overclock themselves when needed, but I didn't know a laptop model would, due to heat constraints. Also, you may be thinking of a 2.4ghz processor downclocking to 1.6ghz when not needed (which is the same sort of technology that's been in most processors for years).

@Rydian my laptop and netbook Intel Pentium Dual Core and Atom 1.6Ghz will downclock each core or thread to half its factory settings.
Like my Pentium Dual Core is a 1.6Ghz, it'll downclock each core to 800mhz for Battery life
