Hello!
I have an idea that I would dearly like to see brought to life as a webcomic, but I don't feel like my art is up to it. So I would love to find an artist who would be willing to work with me on it.

The pitch:

Arthur Zimmerman is a young man looking for a good time, and has no difficulty finding it. His latest time, though, has gone a little sour, as someone's killed his business partner, and he's wound up between two sisters as keen on revenge as they aren't on sharing.

The setting:

Either New York or Chicago in the late 1920s. I still need to do a little research on which location would work better (nothing's mentioned in the script yet, but it is relevant to the plot), and would appreciate input.

The characters:
Arthur Zimmerman: 25, wealthy and of a good, wealthy New England family. Not naive, but loves fun to the point of ignoring danger and is own instincts. Fairly laid-back, and very willing to go along with the wishes of any female companions he happens to have.

Moira Moretti: 28, daughter of an Italian immigrant family. Still remembers being well-off in Italy, so desperately wants success. Conveniently, engaged to Arthur. Very stylish, but still aware and respectful of a slightly older version of propriety.

John Moretti: 20, Moira's brother. Slick. Is one of the men one sees about a dog (rum-runner). Well-intentioned, but bad with money and a very loose moral compass.

Giovanna Moretti: 16, Moira's sister. Nearly finished high school, and driven very much to be married right after; considers her sister an old maid - a terrifying fate.

And then lots of minor characters, including various mobsters and John's pregnant wife.

The conflict:

The whole cast goes on a pleasure cruise for a couple of days, and the second morning John turns up dead. They have to dispose of the body and figure out who did it. Along the way, Giovanna does her level best to seduce Arthur, John's son is born, and everyone either wants or tries to kill everyone else. So, yeah, several conflicts on several levels.

Basic Plot: Moira takes Arthur to meet John, John invites Arthur to invest in a speak-easy with him, Arthur balks a little. A couple days later, Moira extends an invitation from John to go on a family cruise, partly to get to know her family better (towards marital ends), and partly so John can go into business with him. Arthur accepts, and they take off on the boat. John has also invited a few of his other business partners, who are a little more questionable of influence than he is. They have a reasonably pleasant dinner, with a little extra pressure on making the deal. After, John takes Arthur out onto the deck to explain some of his other motives for wanting to go into business with him. John goes back inside, leaving Arthur on the deck to think. Giovanna interrupts the thought process, and is very distracting, until Moira interrupts and is mad. Arthur is consigned to sleeping in a deck chair. In the morning, John is found dead in the galley. Everyone is initially in chaos, but Moira quickly takes charge. She makes John's business partners the prime suspects, and when Arthur gives his evidence, it seems to be confirmed. John's very pregnant wife shoots him, and the stress has sent her into labor. Then there's a baby, and they discard the corpse, threaten a bunch of other people, Giovanna manages to get Arthur alone in a closet, everyone gets mad at each other, and they get back to port. Moira bullies more people, there's a funeral, then we skip to a year later and a wedding.

Length estimate: 200 pages

Tone
: Drama with bits of tongue-in-cheek humor.

Remuneration
: None, sorry. If, however, we manage to get ad revenue, however small, it will be evenly split.

Wow, that turned out longer than I expected.

Anyway, I'm primarily looking for someone who would be not just drawing, but involved, and willing to communicate frequently.

Please let me know if there's any more information I should include.

Wait, what? I'm sorry, no, I can't. I don't do avatar art by preference. I'm actually soliciting an artist to work with me here.

Thanks for your interest, though.

It sounds like an interesting premise, good luck.

Thank you!

Are you serious? You expect to just have someone do all the work for you. Why can't you just learn by yourself? Anyone can draw, if you actually put in the effort. And don't tell me I can't draw or I'm just too lazy to do it. How do you know if your artistic skills suck if you don't at least try?

This seems out of nowhere. Did I miss something? There's nothing wrong with a writer seeking an artist. How would she be expecting someone else to do all the work if she's the one writing it?

Kersian: No, I don't expect someone to do all the work. I'm hoping someone will be willing to do the artistic portion, which, while admittedly a larger portion of the labor in most cases, is not all of it. And I'd be doing or willing to do website maintenance, ad management, and any coding necessary.
And yes, I can draw. Not as well as I'd like to, but I'm working on that. The main thing is that my style isn't particularly conducive to the tone I'd like for this comic.

Thank you for stopping in.

Blinkanjell01: Thank you.

@ Kersian ::

Are YOU serious? Some artists LOVE to do this kind of thing. Have you never heard of pro bono work? If anything, an artist could use this as a chance to gain experience, or could even use it to promote their work, why the hell wouldn't an artist want to do it? Aside from being busy, If I were looking to further myself in comic design and illustration, I would have bloody well done this myself.

Thank you, Reiynne.

Hmm sorry I jumped to conclusions. I assumed you doubted your own abilities and was just trying to find some easy way.

I lurk here fairly often, so I can see that it would be an easy assumption.

Thanks.

Yeah, no it's just that I have been reading too many "to be mangas" and I have to keep switching windows between something to continue reading it. Ugh the ones that are so cliche just ugh.
