If All Else Fails...

If all else fails, and you are unable to determine what the bug is, and/or how to fix it then you have a few last resort options:

Read the Stickies!
"Minor Note"
Ok, so this might not be a last resort option, per se, but think of how many people post questions that are already answered in stickies? This also goes for bugs and glitches, so it's still important to note, especially for those who don't read stickies regularly.

Sometimes, you may think your bug cannot be fixed, or is not widespread, but it is actually already noted in one or more stickies around Gaia. Before reporting a bug that you think is unfixable, I highly suggest checking out the stickies, especially Jakobo's GAIA PROBLEMS sticky, and Arethic's Glitches/Bugs/Info thread.

Fill out a Feedback Form
Feedback Form

Almost like the Bug Report Format above, you will need to explain the bug with as much detail as possible. Please remember to submit this under the appropriate heading (or as close to appropriate as you can).

Finally, please be patient! Feedback forms typically take up to 3-5 days, or even longer, to be answered. Most likely many other people have submitted forms as well, and it takes quite awhile for admins to go through them all. In the meantime, stay calm and try to work around the problem as best as you can.

Other Important Details

"For those who don't know programming symbols"

!=: Is not equal to
==: Is equal to

Lag != Bug
Just because Gaia is loading VERY slowly, or sometimes your posts don't show up right away, doesn't mean there's a bug going around. It's basically lag. Since Gaia has so many users that log on simultaneously, the servers that run Gaia sometimes have trouble keeping up with the demand, and suffer a few hiccups. It's a temporary problem though, and always goes away after awhile. So when reporting a possible bug, please make sure that it is not due to lag.

Server == Bug
However, sometimes one or more servers may go belly up, and cause a whole mess of problems! For example, if you can't see your avatar, or other people's avatars, or you can't access the stores, inventory, etc., then a collapsed server is the culprit. You may report this as a bug (especially if you're one of the first few that received the problem), but generally, we will get enough reports that EVERYONE will know about it, including the admins. So an additional report is not needed.

"WHY SO MANY FRIGGIN' ERRORS?!?"
Remember, Gaia is currently in its Alpha stage. Basically, it's a testing stage, and bugs and such are pretty common at this point. By the time Gaia goes to beta and later, most of these bugs and such will be hammered out.

Admin != Exterminator
Admins and moderators are VERY busy people! Pming them or emailing them with your complaints about bugs will NOT get them fixed any faster! Moderators come here and check this forum frequently, and will fix problems if they can. Also, admins are most likely already working on fixing bugs (especially major ones).

Again, DO NOT PM ADMINS OR MODS! Report the bug in this forum.

Bug Report Format

Again, I would like to stress, this is NOT REQUIRED! This is only a format that I (and most likely many others) prefer to see, and makes describing and possibly fixing the bug a whole lot easier. This format was originally created by PlaceCard, a very great and helpful user!

Now, when reporting a bug, these are the main things you will need to include in your post:

1. The Bug
Try to explain in detail your problem. Such as where it happened, how did it happen, what were you doing when it happened, any links you can provide that can show us more in depth the problem if its something you think it affecting others, or provide any links if you think its relevant for any reason. Also, screen shots in some cases, when its a visual glitch or bug, can be very very helpful also.

2. Operating System
Your system in which you operate on xp
Such as common systems being, Windows (95/98/98SE/ME/2000/XP/2003), also being Mac or linux/unix.
For more detailed definitions, please click this link.

3. Internet/Web Browser
The program/application in what you use to view gaiaonline.com, common browsers being; Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Opera, Lynx, Safari and many more.
If you are not really sure, you can Click this link and copy and paste the sentence that it says is your browser, such as:
Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)

4. ISP/Connection
Your ISP or Internet Connection, is your access to the internet, such as AOL, People PC, MSN, Compuserve and such being some of the major ones, also Verizon, Bellsouth and such who are highspeed providers.
It helps to know this and the speed of your connection, such as 56k dialup, DSL, Cable, or even higher or lower, in order to resolve your problem.
If your not sure of your connection speed, click here to find out, then paste the results, such as:
312.1 kilobits per second

5. Firewall - Software/Hardware
Sometimes, and alot of times firewalls have been discovered to be a problem, so its helpful to know if you have one. Software firewalls, in most common situations are Norton, McAfee, ZoneAlarm, Sygate... if you have one of them or something different, mention it.
Hardware firewalls, are those found in routers, most routers have built in firewalls, such as Linksys routers as an example. If you have a router, and you think it could have a firewall in it, mention it also.

"Why should I tell you my computer info?!?"
Though the majority of bugs can occur to users on any computer of any type, some errors only occur on certain computers, depending on what OS, browser, and/or Internet connection your computer has. At the very least, these bugs can be fixed by simply changing some minor settings on your computer. At the most extreme, you may have to switch browsers and such in order to fully get rid of the bug.

READ THIS FIRST!!!

THIS MAY HELP YOU GET YOUR BUG FIXED FASTER!

Come across a bug, and it won't go away? Don't know what to do? Highly tempted to just pm a random mod or admin and scream at their faces?!? DON'T DO IT! xp

Calm down! That's what this forum is exactly for. To report any type of bugs that you see anywhere around Gaia that pretty much makes your experience a very unpleasant one. You can simply just go here, make a post, and wait for an answer! Simple right?

Well...not quite...

For you see, simply saying "this is not working, fix it!" is not going to be quite helpful, especially for those that may need the information to fix the bug (aka the admins). You will need to provide more information about the bug itself, and in some cases, information about your own computer as well.

This sticky will tell you all the details that you should include when reporting a bug that's plaguing Gaia. This is not required, but I highly recommend reading through and taking this information to heart. It will make your experience on Gaia MUCH better. Trust me! wink

UPDATE: This format is for reporting bugs in the Bug Reports and Technical Support Forum. PLEASE DO NOT PM MODS WITH YOUR BUGS UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD TO DO SO. This forum is a great resource, and many problems can be resolved through here, without mod involvement.

Now, on to the sticky's meaty center! blaugh
