Basic Description: Patrick is an artist who's not interested in anything but continuing to work on his art at the beginning of the book. He finds out he's a Gatekeeper, and at first is very reluctant to take up his role. He later becomes a very good Gatekeeper, and has a very good relationship with his Familiar, Camilla. (very good meaning he makes a stupid comment and she hits him)

Basic Description: Camilla hs been alone on the property for a long time. As a result she is grumpy and antisocial, and really only likes Mel. Later she becomes fond of Patrick, but no one else. She tolerates William and Elise, but can't stand Spook, and doesn't really like Aaron. She doesn't like it when Holly visits Patrick. Like most cats, she is very aware that she is better than everyone around her, and is ALWAYS right. Does not wear makeup.

Basic Description: Flighty, but really fun. Anna tends to be on the over dramatic side. She dated Eli for a long time and almost married him before he disappeared, then tricked Mel into dating her (whether him marrying her was a trick or not, we can't be sure XP). Anna knows only the bare minimum about the Gates and Gatekeepers, and decided to keep her sons in the dark on the chance they could live a normal life.

Basic Description: Aaron is actually a really cute kid, but can be a bit of a brat to Patrick. To everyone else he's a sweetheart. At the beginning of the book he doesn't have his powers yet, and Patrick plans to keep it that way, until due to a bad turn of events Aaron ends up with his fire powers, and Patrick has to train him. His real dad is Eli, but he disappeared before Aaron was even born. He considers Mel to be his real dad, but calls him Mel because Patrick does.

Basic Description: Acts grumpy and tries to act like he knows everything, but in reality he is only a few years older than Patrick and it shows. He can be quick to make assumptions and lost his temper. Over all he's a good guy and helps Patrick out a lot. He's dating his Familiar, Elise, even though it's taboo.

He's a little young, but he's one of the best Gatekeepers in the business. He's a little overprotective of his twin sister, Amber. He's a Batman fan. He has always been home schooled, but has Gatekeeper friends and friends his age from the area. (if you want to draw them, those designs are up to you)

Basic Description: Very shy and quiet, Cameron grew up in the other world. His family died when he was young, and turned to thievery in an attempt to make a living for himself. He was caught, and in punishment, the military sent him up into the wild North to investigate a recently destroyed Gate with a regiment that patrolled through that area. He ends up saving Patrick's life and helping him with his powers. He's normally rather talkative around other Fire Users, but clams up again around any other type of Gatekeeper.

Basic Description: Eli disappeared around the time Patrick was four. Before then he was energetic, happy, and a good dad. He was very likable, and becamse friends with almost anyone he met (except for Camilla, who doesn't like anyone, but she warmed up to him eventually). Unfortunately as a Fire User born in the other world, people had the tendency to shun him. His parents died when he was very young and he was raised by his non-Fire User grandfather and trained by his uncle, his only surviving relative that was a Fire User. He became best friends with Mel when they were young (before he got his powers), and his family took him in when his grandfather died. Shortly after Mel joined the military, the original Gatekeeper at the Prescott Gate died, and he was assigned to it. He met Anna while attempting to grocery shop and ended up dating her, and got very close to marrying her before he fell off the face of the planet.
